James Green

Lives and works in Cardiff

James Green’s work takes an interdisciplinary approach, that crosses between painting, sculpture, collage, mask making, print, and comic making.

Inspiration for this work comes from a wide range of artists, places and cultures; from close to home in the Rhondda Valleys where he grew up, to ancient ritualistic practices from around the world, and from David Hockney and Pablo Picasso, to Fletcher Hanks and J-Dilla.

James is also continuing work on ‘The History of The Rhondda’; a series of collages that takes a subjective look at the past, present, and future of the South Wales Valleys, and ‘A Day in the Life of….’, an ongoing series of small works, one made everyday, which now number in the thousands.

James has studied at Cardiff School of Art and Design, and at the Royal college of Art. He has exhibited widely around the UK, Amsterdam and Dubai. His work is held in private collections. He has taught at many art schools in London and South Wales, including; Central St. Martins School of Art, Chelsea School of Art, Byam Shaw School of Art, Coleg Sir Gar Carmarthen, and Cardiff School of Art and Design. James is currently working towards a PhD at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
