James Moore explores the role and potential of painting in a digital age, using computer worlds and imagery as a source, and reducing them back to a 600 year old tradition of oil painting on canvas.

James's paintings have a falseness that forms the foundation of his work. He describes his pictures as being “like levels from a non-existent game”. He tries to capture the surreal qualities inherent in the virtual world, particularly simulations that depict the natural world. Ultimately, Moore’s paintings seek to picture something tangible, conjured up from our culture's obsession with simulations and fiction.

James studied a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Manchester School of Art, before studying for a MA in Fine Art at the Chelsea College of Art & Design, London. He has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally. Exhibitions include Y Lle Celf, National Eisteddfod of Wales, Vale of Glamorgan (2012), Welsh Artist of the Year, St. Davids Hall, Cardiff (2012), and 'Alter//Shift//Control', Bermondsey Project, London (2013).

The artist was in the following exhibition:
Cities of Ash
