Fraser Cook

Strike Your Fancy 2010
Strike Your Fancy 2010

Fraser Cook makes sculptures with a brash eccentricity that look like they could be packed or wheeled away. Working with light reflective materials, in particular mirror, wood stain, gloss paint, PVC and Perspex combined with bear wood and grimy feathers.

A recurring theme in Fraser work is an attempt at ostentatious display receding into failure and emptiness. A gaudy yellow Sedan Cruiser replete with wipe-clean panels contains just a strobe light, flashing away at a party for nobody. Strike Your Fancy exist as a potential stage for masculine display, but there is no hammer, the target cannot ring, and there is a dilated, fleshy clump in place of what you are supposed to hit.

Fraser graduated in 2006 with a BA Art and Visual Culture from U.W.E and has a place at Chelsea College of Art and Design for MA Fine Art. He has shown in Bristol, Bath and Cardiff and had his first solo show in 2009. He is a member of Spike Island Associates.

The artist was in the following exhibition:
Building Up Not Tearing Down
