Taking cue from the critical writings of Griselda Pollock and Judith Butler, Tiff Oben's practice explores gender, subjectivity and representation as an inter-related set of issues.


Using performance, photography, film, costume and ceramics Oben emphasises the unfixity and fluidity of subjectivity. She does this through the representation of herself in a variety of guises that reference western cultural archetypes and stereotypes. The work hopes to affect the viewer, forcing them to consider their existential selves and to ultimately estrange them from such notions of self.

Tiff is currently studying at the University of Glamorgan in MA Art Practice. Recent group exhibitions include Woman at Elysium, Swansea, 2011 and Tenure at tactileBOSCH, Cardiff, 2011. In 2010 she was awarded the Brian Ross Memorial Fund from the Arts Council Wales.
