The First aid scheme is a unique opportunity for skills sharing in Wales. After successfully receiving funding from the Wales Council for Voluntary Action 'Millennium Volunteers' scheme we have been recruiting young people to take part in the project. This means that g39 can work with volunteers over the coming years on various self-initiated projects.

The scheme aims to provide unemployed, no income, at risk groups or low waged young people with experience in managing a cultural event or product. This will enable the acquisition of vital skills and experience in order to increase future employment opportunities.

The First Aid scheme will also increase cultural output across the city. We have seen the appearance of several initiatives around Cardiff which have been set up by individuals who have been involved at g39. We hope that the First Aid scheme will generate a healthier cultural climate in Wales.

Previous projects have been devised with a particular emphasis on community involvement, and have given the young people skills and experience in management, teamwork, marketing, reaching audiences and interpretation.

Rise: Rise is a newly formed studio group of young artists. At their studio premises based in Roath they will set up an exhibition of new Wales-based artists' work. They intend to include their community with a high profile launch event involving bands and a D.J event.

Zine: This project is led by a group of six people who are investigating the possibility of establishing a publication for Wales with a focus on the arts. The need for a publication specific to the Welsh artscene is indisputable, but has persistently been an area that is neglected. Perhaps Zine will give rise to the next Circa or Freize.

Film Bus: This project will take super 8 film to rural communities across Wales by running one-day workshops from a specially adapted bus! The group plan to teach basic film making skills to individuals, from first shoot to processing and editing, and show the resulting films on the bus at the end of the day.

Shelf: Shelf is a virtual exhibition space that exists on the Internet. This project will offer a domestic shelf as a venue for the exhibition of artists' small scale work, which will be viewed solely from the Web. The project aims to develop a live chat room and noticeboard for the virtual gallery.
