"Education can provide a bridge between the artist and the public."
 |
g39 organises gallery talks to accompany each exhibition. These are the main forum we provide for our visitors' questions. Open to all, the discussions have been informal enough (as a chat between artist and speaker) to be accessible for a non-art audience. Often taking place on the ground floor, we operate an open-door policy for passers-by so people can drop in and leave as they wish. The provision of a regular gallery talk has enriched our audience's experience of our exhibitions.
The talks take the form of a one-hour informative discussion with the artist(s), during which the audience is invited to respond or ask their own questions. We can also provide a transcription in large print, Braille and audio for those unable to attend.
The gallery's aim is to increase understanding and awareness of contemporary visual art in Wales, and the gallery talks extend the discursive platform to a non-art audience. The talks aim to make people feel empowered to have a valid opinion on contemporary art.
