Abi Birkinshaw
Abi Birkenshaw is a painter working with the tactility of the canvas, short texts and simplified figures and forms in compelling arrangements.
“I make paintings that narrate my own lived experience; they are a synthesis of my day-to-day life. My most recent work concerns itself with the idea of endings and what comes after.
Headless figures and floating heads exist alongside fragments of text in an ambiguous world. This liminal space between the real and the imagined and the past and the present is where my work often lies.”
Abi studied in Cardiff, and has presented her work regularly. Her work has been shown at the BEEP Painting Biennial 2022, a solo show at Elysium Gallery, 2022, concrete lines, baby., SHIFT Cardiff, 2023 and London Art Fair, w/ Columbia Road Gallery, London, 2025
