Over 15 years of collaboration, Topia and Gould have developed a cross-disciplinary practice centred on painted sculpture and drawing. They use humour and narrative to engage in dialogues about how our intimate connections with people and culture shape and distort our perceptions of reality.
Topia and Gould's work has been heavily influenced by consuming an eclectic range of movies, from low-budget cinema to cult classics. Over the past couple of years, they have begun using their phones to take digital images of films, many contain art or artists in some form. Recently, they have been researching Astrovision, a video rental shop in Gloucestershire in the mid-80s where Roxy's nan used to work. Astrovision has become the ‘MacGuffin’ for work exploring memory, nostalgia and physical media.
Roxy and Paddy have presented their work in galleries across the UK, this includes their ambitious 2024 solo show Let Your Ideas Come Back As Children, at Bluecoat, Liverpool, Discombobuloscopy, Convienience Gallery, Birkenhead in 2022, and as part of Nice to Meet You, at George and Jorgen, Oxford, and Multipack, at Bunker Gallery, Manchester.
