Athena Jones is a Cardiff born Cypriot artist. She works primarily in drawing and painting. Her practice involves collecting, observing and drawing from life and she often responds to something seen or someone that she has met.

I have a fascination with imagery of all kinds and how these images evoke a response from us. I find that images and stories can create chance connections and through making work, I hope that narratives begin to reveal themselves and reflect a sense of history and memory, as well as making something new.

Athena studied Fine art in Nottingham (BA 1996) and Cardiff (MFA 2002), primarily drawing and painting. Athena started the Rhydypennau Library Portrait in 2016 and more recently exhibited with BEEP 2024, Drawing Paper Show ‘23 & ‘25, Wales Contemporary’25, Juxtaposed 2025 at Cyfartha Castle, Cardiff MADE, PAM and the Ty Turner Open calls.
