Lewis Prosser

b. 1992, Bristol
Lives and works in Cardiff

Lewis Prosser is an absurdist basketmaker, artist, and curator based in Wales, UK. He uses heritage craft techniques and performance to explore themes of regional identity, cultural exchange, and public ceremony.
His practice investigates the relationship between tangible objects and the intangible elements of culture: memory, ritual, and social practice, using basketry to trace connections between objects, place, and collective experience.
Through speculative forms and improvised performance, Prosser blends meticulous craftsmanship with moments of unpredictability and humour, highlighting the human qualities embedded in the act of making. He is drawn to collaboration as a way of disrupting certainty, inviting unexpectedness and reflection into the work. For Prosser, craft and performance are shared processes, creating spaces where audiences and participants can encounter culture as something alive, shifting, and co-created.
Having studied at the Glasgow School of Art and with the self-organised group The School of the Damned, Prosser has exhibited widely across the UK. Recent projects include Making Merrie (touring exhibition and performance, funded by the Arts Council of Wales), and public commissions such as Carreg Ateb: Vision or Dream at Mostyn Gallery, part of the National Gallery’s Bicentenary celebrations, supported by the Colwinston Charitable Trust.

The artist was in the following exhibition:
