good cop bad cop is the artistic partnership of John Rowley and Richard Huw Morgan. They have been creating work both jointly and separately across artforms including moving image, installation and sound work, primarily on the boundary of theatrical and fine art performance practices since 1992. They have dedicated themselves to working within a Welsh cultural context and draw many of their thematics and inspiration from what is possible working within this context, while also producing work internationally as and when opportunities arise.


good cop bad cop have shown their performance / art works widely, including Occupation (a co-commission for Cardiff Contemporary and Experimentica, 2014); Beating the Path (an ACW Theatre Development Project, 2013); Monuments to Failure (performance sculpture, 2012-13); gyda eu theulu (sculpture/installation for Rhod, Carmarthenshire 2010). From 2011-14 they were co-producers and presenters of Pitch, an arts programme for Radio Cardiff.
John Rowley has over 20 years of professional performance experience, working extensively in theatre, film and television. In 2008 he received ACW Creative Wales award. He has teaching and workshop experience in performance, choreography and has assisted in devising a number of university degree courses. Richard Huw Morgan has been involved in performance in Wales since 1990. He was a core member of the internationally renowned experimental theatre company Brith Gof (with John Rowley) from 1990-97. During that time he began to produce his own performance work with his company Das Wunden and subsequently with good cop bad cop (gcbc) to date. He continues to work with other members of Brith Gof. Since 1997 he has been devising and performing soundwork for his own and others’ performances, and in 2000 established the experimental sound collective, “Continuous sound labordy swn cont...” In January 2006 he received a Creative Wales Major Award from the Arts Council of Wales, and was selected for Y Lle Celf at the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol in Casnewydd 2004, Abertawe 2006, Caerdydd 2008, Llanelli 2014.
Between 2002-04 Richard was Research Fellow in Time Based practice at University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. In 2006-7 he was Welsh Language Research Fellow in Bi-lingual Graphic Design at Swansea Metropolitan University. Since 2011 he has been lecturer in Technology and Performance (Welsh language), University of South Wales. Richard gained a MSc(Econ) in Media Studies at Cardiff University and a BSc(Econ) in Philosophy & Psychology at Swansea University.
