Gwenan Davies

b. 1982, N Wales
Lives and works in Glasgow, UK

Gwenan Davies’ work falls into distinct separate mediums, but follows similar research and thematic avenues, namely the construction and use of public space and its relation to the individual. Her work depicts recreations of these interior spaces, and points towards the isolated individual located in the anonymity of corporate consumption.

Gwenan also curates a series of group shows and events titled Gwenan International. These are group shows that last for only one night, often held in her flat. Gwenan International events become as much about hosting and controlling subtle movements within areas as they are showcasing artist works.

Gwenan has exhibited widely including solo exhibitions at Raja Galerii (Talinn, 2011) and Studio 41 (Glasgow, 2011), and group exhibitions including Quick and Dirty (Cantina Buenos Aires, Mexico City, 2014); Actions of Longevity (The Briggait, Glasgow, 2014); and Invigilate (Rivintgon Place, London, 2009). Her work was featured in Y Lle Celf at the Eisteddfod (Meirion, 2009) and the Kyffin Wiliams Drawing Prize (Oriel Kyffin Williams, Anglesey, 2009). She has undertaken artist residencies at Verge Gallery (Glasgow Artist Studios, 2013), Outlandia (Glen Nevis, 2013) and Pirkkala Residency (Finland, 2011). Gwenan studied at Glasgow School of Art where she was awarded an Mres in Creative Practices in 2011, and she graduated from University of Wales Institute Cardiff in 2004 with a BA (Hons) Fine Art.
