From a temporary home in The Dairy, Pontcanna, Cardiff, g39 continues its exhibitions programme with Welcome To Your World, a point of departure for Artist Richard Higlett and his contraption the GPS (Gallery of Portable Sound), a car rooftop speaker system and mobile platform for Sonic Art.

The GPS features throughout Higlett’s recent Sound Art and public intervention project Don’t Shoot The Messenger. Through a rolling programme of interactions in diverse locations, this mobile cultural ‘town crier’ explores the use of sound in developing the understanding of place and context, ephemerally engaging with passers-by amongst transitory spaces such as traffic roundabouts. Such interventions in the series include; ALL THESE WORLDS ARE YOURS EXCEPT…, which will see three piece rock band Bear-Man perform inside the vehicle whilst journeying to several Cardiff traffic roundabouts in the alignment of the ‘Great Bear’ astrological constellation. The show also features work by Leona Jones who was asked to write texts from the position of a notional writer in residence on a traffic island. Higlett has also collaborated with a local cat called ‘Hapus’ who responds to a series of questions presented to her by an actor on the theme of hunting. The exhibition framed around the initiation of the “Don’t Shoot The Messenger” project looks at urban living and the environment of the city along side themes of ideas around city dwellers being disenfranchised with the natural world.

The exhibition will culminate with a special Artist Talk on Saturday 15 Oct, 11am at The Dairy. This will give audiences a chance to see the adorned Ford Fiesta, engage with the Artist and explore alternative platforms for Sonic Art and creative interventions. The event will also act as a call for interest in future ventures from artists and curators. Attendance is free.
